To be a coach, you need to be an active listener and answer the question: How can I serve better the team?

The agile coach is “…the servant leader and guardian of team’s performance and quality” (Coaching Agile Teams from Lyssa Adkins).

He or she’s responsible to help the team have the courage, openness and trust to speak what’s on their mind, ideas or problems.

And help managers and leaders transform these ideas in solutions, addressing the issues that can impact delivery.

For me, this is the ultimate answer for the coaching question.

I’ve learnt a lot stopping command-and-control-ism as to stop worrying about me and start focusing in the team.

You will grow as the team grow.

The changes you do alone, won’t be transformed in improvements. As you leave, they stop existing.

The changes your team implement will be consistent, and, even if you leave, the team will continue to improve.

It doesn’t mean you are unnecessary, it means you are part of the team, and not above it.
